Second vegetable movie – “Ode to Green” by Hagob Manoukian

As you might remember, we mentioned earlier that we’re doing movies about vegetables. It’s not because we’re militant vegans or anything, but because we want to challenge ourselves. Most would think a movie about vegetables will turn out boring. Then again, Hollywood made a pretty good movie about a thing like Facebook.

This is the second vegetable film out of four in total. It’s called “Ode to Green”.

Directed by Hagob Manoukian
Directors of Photography: Rasmus Nordin
Composer: André Gogola
Production Assistants: Axel Brännmark, Theoharis Charitidis, Vito Gogola & Jesper Wahlqvist

Watch, enjoy and share if you like it!

Movies about vegetables – what are we doing?

You might have noticed recently that we have posted titles of four upcoming films with a “vegetable theme”. What are these movies? Are they coming out? And why vegetables?

In our collective, we have a couple of people who want to direct or has directed before. Some of us are Axel Brännmark, Hagob Manoukian, Rasmus Nordin and André & Vito Gogola. Last week, we all had some time off in our schedules and decided to challenge ourselves. What if we used this week to make really short short films about something that’s hard to make exciting? We decided that every director had to make their own three-or-so minute long short film about the captivating theme of…

…vegetables.

It’s not easy, but we don’t want it to be easy. This project as a concept is called 4 tolkningar (“4 Renditions”). Maybe we’ll do something similar in the future. These shorts will be released on our Vimeo shortly:

  • Ode to Green directed by Hagob Manoukian
  • Aubergine directed by André & Vito Gogola
  • Grönsakspausen directed by Axel Brännmark
  • Spill the Beans directed by Rasmus Nordin

More info about these film projects will accompany their releases.

Libertine Mode Sessions

11737878_910138632376115_849631347511293898_nA couple of days ago we announced on our Facebook page that we are once again aiming at music! In our new project, which we call Libertine Mode Sessions, we will create short music videos for young, aspiring musicians performing their music live in different environments. It’s pretty low-key, straight-forward and rock-hard.

Our first music video is for the song “Working Class Hero” performed here by Theoharis Charitidis. A video that gives you a good idea of what we are striving for with this new concept.

“Grabbar som bryter” in the news + poster!

Dear libertines,

Unfortunately we haven’t been updating this site as much as we should. It seems we on dat Facebook shit. Sorry about that. It might be wise to follow us there too: facebook.com/libertinemode

Grabbar som bryter – our first short film, about youths living on the notorious street Malmvägen north of Stockholm, Sweden – was featured on Swedish TV roughly one month ago. The actors Hagob Manoukian and Jack Bahi + one of the directors, André, got interviewed at Nyhetsmorgon, a breakfast television show in Sweden. It was awesome and we snapped a lot of pictures, which you can see on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Also, we were interviewed by Vi i Sollentuna, a local newspaper in Sollentuna. Sollentuna is the municipality where Malmvägen is located. Terrific article with Hagob, Jack and both directors, André & Vito.

Screencaps from Gogola Challenge #2 – “German Triad”

“Kinesen” a.k.a. “Your Father” a.k.a. “German Triad” is the second Gogola Challenge production by director Aidin Akbari, producer Jesper Wahlqvist and production assistant Axel Brännmark. The actors are Amanda Fredholm Hedqvist, Felicia Bökman, Hagob Manoukian and Peter Gategren.

The plot: Two women, Iris and Moa, discuss the Bechdel test. Someone knocks on the door. There we see an elderly, German man and his translator. The translator explains that the biological father of one of the women has passed away. The father was the head of the so-called German triad. The translator does not explain what that exactly is, but says her father was a powerful man and that this triad needs her to take her father’s place.

For this production, the rules were:

1. The script must be written by the Gogola brothers.
2. The script cannot contain sex, violence and drugs (the brothers broke their own rule).
3. The film must contain two women talking about something else besides men (to pass the so-called Bechdel test).
4. The film must contain a character played by Hagob Manoukian.
5. During the shoot, you shall use a lamp, an external mic, a tripod and a clapperboard, used under a conventional shooting routine (“Scene 1A, take 1, frame, action!”).
6. Aidin directs and shoots.
7. Jesper produces. Only Jesper handle the schedule and everyone must follow his decisions regarding this. Jesper is King of Practicalities, so to speak.
8. Any person, except Jesper, handles the clapperboard, that is, acts as a production assistant. Jesper must not explain how to use the clapperboard.
9. The film cannot be longer than five minutes.
10. Deadline: February 8th at noon.
11. The film must be shot and take place in one room only (they broke this rule).

Ladies and gentlemen, we proudly present the photos from the shoot of Grabbar som bryter, the first non-documentary short film from Libertine Mode.

Be sure to follow the project on Facebook and Instagram, where you can find more pictures from the shoot. On Facebook, the pictures above have (Swedish) captions, that might be nice.

Tally-ho and turn that switch on.

And now, the very first post

Last day of the shoot of “Grabbar som bryter”. From left to right: Hagob Manoukian, Jesper Wahlqvist, André Gogola, Inês Nogueira, Brian Ryu, Rasmus Nordin and Vito Gogola.

We are finally here. A lot has been happening below the surface, but now we’re finally willing to speak up on what we’re actually doing. And it’s going to sound way cool (we hope).

Firstly, our very first fiction short film Grabbar som bryter (preliminary, international title: Broken Swedish) is in the post-production stage. We filmed it during one week in August and have gone far in the rough cut, but there’s still a lot left. Hopefully we’ll be able to give you all some sort of preliminary release date later on. Read more about Grabbar som bryter here (in Swedish!).

Secondly, we are working on an outline for another, smaller film project. However, quite understandably, Grabbar som bryter are taking up most of our time. And then we have a bunch of other ideas also, but more on that later.

Also, Libertine Mode has expanded into a gang of different people with different ideas. A collective, more or less. We’ll give you the details soon. As for now, however, we’ll put that on hold too.

Tally-ho and turn that switch on.
